Hi. My name is Jentery Sayers (he / him). I skip a syllable and say it in two: “JEN-tree.” I spend 10.27% of the day looking for my glasses.

I’m interested in what media do across forms of fiction. How do they shape and escape our attention? How do we tell stories with them, and how do they tell stories about us?

I grew up in Richmond, Virginia and went to VCU for my BA and BS degrees. Then I moved to Seattle, where I received an MA and PhD in English from UW.

I now work at the University of Victoria (UVic) on WSÁNEĆ and lək̓ʷəŋən territories. I teach in UVic’s new Media Studies program, which I direct. I also teach literary and cultural studies in English, web design in Professional Communication, and media theory in Cultural, Social, and Political Thought (CSPT). I’ve been at UVic since 2011.

This Site

I built this site with Sublime and Jekyll (no database, no CMS, no ads). The font is Merriweather, designed by Eben Sorkin, and the background color is #CEE0DD (cyan). Ahmad Ajmi created the theme and core files, which I customized. I write the content in Markdown, the metadata in YAML, and the style in Sassy CSS.

The content is licensed CC BY, I time-stamp it when I publish or update it, and I use seven tags to structure it: books, committees, courses, essays, infrastructures, prototypes, and resources.
